“You are what you eat,” the saying goes. In the London district of Barking, an area that has some of the highest levels of immigration, not everyone eats the same. “I don't like their food”, the butcher says, “because I'm not used to it.” An elderly couple doesn't like the cooking smells wafting in from their Nigerian neighbours… But when invited for dinner at their houses, they quietly clean their plates.
